Hatching Chickens!

The chickens have just arrived and we are very excited to have them here for a whole two weeks. During their visit the children will explore the life cycle of chickens and experience firsthand caring for animals.  In the first week the children will witness chickens hatching and learn about caring for a new born chick, like keeping them warm, what they eat and drink and keeping their home clean.  During the second week the children will develop an understanding of the interdependence between land, people and animals as we gently hold the chickens and introduce them to our playground allowing them to roam.  This interest will be incorporated into our play, language and literacy – stories, counting and graphing of chickens growth.  Arts and Crafts – drawing and collage/box construction. Dramatic play – constructing natural environments, just to name a few.
